Ambulance Cover

Benefit for HSU Members

This benefit means that eligible financial members are provided with the necessary transportation by emergency transport, in circumstances of injury or sickness, to the nearest available hospital equipped to deal with the nature of the emergency.

The Emergency Ambulance Cover provides for:

  • Road Ambulance
  • Air Ambulance
  • Ambulance response services
  • Full coverage if claimable event is within Australia 

The Emergency Ambulance Cover does not provide for:

  • Emergency ambulance response where financial assistance is available through a legislated scheme, a health insurance policy or any other insurance policy or when exempted by the employer.
  • Coverage outside of Australia
  • Patient Transport Services
Coverage:
all ambulance services incurred within Australia for the member only (excluding QLD Members)

Excludes:
  1. Members eligible for financial assistance through:
    1. legislated scheme (e.g., social security entitlement)
    2. health insurance policy (e.g., private insurance)
    3. any other insurance policy (e.g., CTP, worker’s compensation, sporting club policy)
  2. members on unemployment waiver and non-paying memberships (life, retired, student)
  3. patient transport services or when exempted by the employer.
  4. transportation inter-hospital, from one home to another, and for social/convenience reasons
  5. services incurred prior to 1 July 2019
Member must:
  1. Be financial at the time of service and have made at least one payment.
  2. Provide all required paperwork (HSU form, statutory declaration, invoice) see attached to article 
Additional terms:
  1. Compensation limited to $5,000 p.a. (financial year)  – thereafter the member must write to the Union Council for consideration (refer to claims@hsu.asn.au)
  2. HSU does not cover debt collection fees due to the member neglecting to make payments in a timely manner
How to make a claim:
To lodge a claim members must complete the claim form and statutory declaration (see attached). Completed forms along with the tax invoice from the emergency ambulance service that was utilised can be emailed to claims@hsu.asn.au or posted to Level 2, 109 Pitt Street, Sydney NSW 2000 for processing.
