Bereavement Benefit

 To help support the family and loved ones of our members, especially in their time of need, the HSU provides a $5,000 bereavement payment to the next of kin of the deceased member.
The $5,000 bereavement payment made to the deceased member’s* next of kin can assist with a range of costs through the stressful period including member’s funeral, rent assistance, outstanding bills, credit cards etc.

Members* are covered for accidental death and illnesses. This includes pre-existing illnesses.

Coverage: all financial members must be 69 years or under at time of death.        

Excludes:
Members whose cause of death is suicide occurring within the first 13 months after joining.

Members must:
  1. Be financial at time of death
  2. A Member who is not an Australia Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia must have a valid visa (visa means a current and valid visa issued in accordance with the Migration ACT 1958) or any amending or replacing Act which enables an Eligible Person or Insured Person to work in Australia.

Member’s next of kin must provide:

  1. HSU claim form
  2. Certified copy of cause of death (death certificate/medical certificate of cause of death/coroner’s report)
  3. Certified copy of passport/driver’s license (one is sufficient ) or photo ID card
  4. Certified copy of change of name (if applicable)

Additional terms:

One-off payment of $5,000
