Inpatient Mental Health Unit Changes at Banks House

A restructure within the Inpatient Mental Health Unit at Banks House is being proposed by South Western Sydney LHD (SWSLHD). This is your opportunity to have a say on how this affects you.

  • The district states that from early June 2026, Banks House will operate as a 30 bed acute mental health unit with the current 10 bed observation unit being converted to acute beds for a 3-month trial.
  • The district claims this trial is one of a number of winter strategies the Mental Health Service is implementing to improve access for consumers.
  • Consultation is occurring to discuss the impact of the change and identify and potential risks, and to develop a modified model of care and ways of working for the trial period.
