Chemical Criminalistic Unit Restructure at Forensic & Analytical Science Service (FASS)

Chemical Criminalistic Unit Restructure at Forensic & Analytical Science Service (FASS)

Thursday 14 May, 2026

NSW Health Pathology (NSWHP) has notified the HSU of proposed changes within the Chemical Criminalistic Unit within FASS. This is your opportunity to have a say on how this affects you.
  • The proposed changes allegedly follows a review of the current operating model which was designed to assess the long-term sustainability of the unit amongst evolving service demands.
  • The proposal would see the realignment of services provided by the Chemical Criminalistics Unit within the existing Illicit Drugs Analysis Unit (IDAU) structure to form a consolidated Forensic Chemistry service.
  • Whilst management claim there would be no reduction in staffing numbers or overall FTE, the proposal clearly involves the deletion of a number of positions which would be replaced with lower grade positions. The HSU is always concerned about the deletion of positions and job cuts.
