HSU Core Conditions: Member Survey 2026
Friday 24 April, 2026
Dear member,
Today all HSU members in NSW Health are being asked to complete an
important survey that will help support upcoming hearings for improvements to Award conditions.
Health workers perform demanding, high-pressure work every day. Caring for patients, managing stressful workloads, and keeping the health system running under immense strain. No worker in those conditions should be forced to choose between their health and their pay because they do not have enough sick leave. Members deserve sick leave that reflects the realities of frontline healthcare work, not outdated minimum standards.
HSU is pursuing claims to strengthen sick leave provisions, secure enforceable minimum breaks between shifts, and protect uninterrupted meal breaks at work. To win these improvements, HSU members need to provide strong evidence about what is really happening in NSW Health workplaces.
- This survey asks about issues many members experience, including:
- Running out of sick or carer’s leave
- Going to work while unwell because leave is limited
- Difficulties obtaining medical certificates
- Missing or interrupted meal breaks
- Going to work without a proper break
Members responses will be used as evidence to demonstrate the real impact current arrangements are having on workers’ health, fatigue, safety, finances and wellbeing. The stronger the evidence, the stronger our case. All details provided will remain confidential.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and encourage your workmates to do the same.
