Dear member,
On Wednesday 3 June 2026, HSU delegates met with the Minister for Health, Ryan Park, to discuss the critical workforce issues due to the lack of action by Downer Group to address members' concerns across Bathurst, Bloomfield and Orange.
Your delegates spoke with passion and purpose, and reiterated the need for the Minister to commit to the following HSU requirements:
- Undertake a review of the current Private Public Partnership (PPP) contract, in consultation with the HSU, to ensure it is fit for purpose with a view to terminating the contract based on this cost benefit analysis;
- Release a copy of the updated PPP contract; and
- Commit to not renewing the PPP at the end of its current term.
The Minister acknowledged HSU members reports of bullying, harassment, and intimidation over a long period of time. He also shared his concerns with the matters raised by members which is causing an unsafe environment for patients and staff. The Minister committed to responding to the HSU requirements in writing within one week and did not reject these requirements outlined in the meeting.
I attended this meeting and reiterated my strong support for this member-led campaign. Members are committed to further action if there is an insufficient response from the Minister and Local Health District. The message from the HSU is clear: now is the time to fix this broken PPP.
