Nutrition and Dietetics Restructure at Children’s Hospital Westmead (CHW)
Monday 29 June, 2026
Dear member,
CHW has notified the HSU of proposed changes to Allied Health Assistants (AHA) and Hospital Assistants (HA) within the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics. This is your opportunity to have a say on how this affects you.
- The proposal involves the modification of shift structures and workflows within the Diet Office, as well as the introduction of an additional daily Diet Office shift.
- The proposed changes include an uplift in staff as well as variations the start and finish times of some shifts, resulting in a loss of shiftwork penalty rates for some shifts e.g. the previous Diet Office 10am-6:30pm shift would change to 9:30am-6pm.
- Management claim that that the financial loss for this change (as explained on page 8) is relatively minor and they believe is partly offset by the improvement in work-life balance created by the change in shift times, such as no longer being required to start at 6am.
