HSU Member Wins at Bathurst, Bloomfield and Orange

HSU Member Wins at Bathurst, Bloomfield and Orange

Friday 26 June 2026

Today I announced that the member-led HSU campaign at Bathurst, Bloomfield, and Orange has reached a pivotal moment, with a formal response received from the Minister for Health, along with separate correspondence from the Local Health District. The Minister for Health has made the following commitments:
  1. A re-elected NSW Labor Government would not renew the Public Private Partnership (‘PPP’) at Bathurst, Bloomfield and Orange.
  2. The Minister will undertake a ‘fit for purpose review’ of the PPP contract and ensure that the review is enforced “for the benefit of the health system and the community it serves”.
  3. The Minister will release a copy of the contracts which can be made public, subject to any redactions such as commercial in confidence sections.
  4. The Minister will meet with Downer Group and the Health Services Union to discuss key issues raised by HSU members including bullying, training gaps, safety issues, and poor staff engagement.

This is welcome news for HSU members who have been speaking out about the PPP for years. However, these wins alone are not enough. HSU members will continue to ensure that the significant workforce shortages, ongoing WHS issues, and systematic bullying, intimidation, and micromanagement in departments managed by Downer Group are addressed.

Please see the attached schedule linked below outlining the status of the nine requirements put to the Minister for Health’s office on 1 April 2026.
