Anthem Care Walks Away from Bargaining Process

Anthem Care Walks Away from Bargaining Process

Tuesday 19 May 2026

HSU members at Anthem Care have been participating in a broader aged care bargaining process involving multiple employers across the sector.

As part of this process, Anthem Care engaged the aged care peak body to negotiate on its behalf together with a group of aged care employers. Negotiations had progressed toward a proposed agreement that would have delivered wage increases, backpay, and improvements to conditions for workers.

Unfortunately, Anthem Care has now withdrawn from this process at the last minute.

This is deeply disappointing for HSU members, particularly considering the outcomes that other employers in the bargaining group have now agreed to.

The proposed agreement reached with other employers includes:

Wages (including backpay):
  • 4.5% increase from December 2024
  • 2.5% increase from July 2025
  • 2.5% increase from July 2026
  • 2.5% increase from July 2027
Other proposed improvements include:
  • Predictable hours for part-time employees through regular patterns of work
  • Allowances increasing alongside wage increases
  • Improved union rights clauses for members and delegates
  • A new Senior Personal Care Worker classification for experienced Cert III employees
  • Better client cancellation and broken shift protections for Home Care workers
It is extremely frustrating that Anthem Care has now seemingly walked away from the process after months of negotiations, placing both the proposed agreement and significant backpay for workers in jeopardy.

HSU Organisers will be attending the workplace over the coming weeks to speak with members directly, answer questions, and discuss what these developments mean for bargaining moving forward.
