More Feedback Needed: Issues Under Downer Group

More Feedback Needed: Issues Under Downer Group

Friday 10 April, 2026

Dear member,

HSU members have overwhelmingly endorsed a campaign to meaningfully improve the working conditions of members managed by Downer Group at Bathurst, Bloomfield and Orange hospitals.

This week, members have begun signing petitions and proudly wearing stickers to support this member-led campaign. In the meantime, the Government and Ministry of Health are considering the nine requests that HSU delegates put forward last week.

HSU members are now encouraged to provide further evidence of Downer Group's poor management practices and to make sure that the Government and Ministry of Health hear what is really happening across Bathurst and Orange.

Please take ten minutes to complete this important survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/downer-issues

Survey closes Wednesday, 22 April 2026.

This survey covers key areas including:
  • Staffing levels and workload pressures
  • Rostering and fatigue risks
  • Training and management practices
  • Workplace safety and bullying
  • Specific examples of how these issues are impacting patient care and staff wellbeing

Your input is critical. The survey will take approximately 5–10 minutes to complete. All responses will be treated confidentially, and no personal information will be shared externally.

Complete survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/downer-issues

It is important that all members at Bathurst, Bloomfield, and Orange Hospitals participate if they are managed by Downer Group, OR if they are managed by NSW Health and have firsthand experience of Downer Group's management practices negatively impacting patient care, or the work, health and safety conditions of staff and the community.

If you have any immediate concerns or would prefer to speak directly, please contact your organiser Thomas Robinson at Thomas.robinson@hsu.asn.au.
