UNION WIN: Personal leave at Pines Living

UNION WIN: Personal leave at Pines Living

Wednesday 24 June, 2026

Last week, HSU members at Pines Living raised concerns about emails they received, regarding the use of their personal leave entitlements and providing statutory declarations as evidence.

The HSU wrote to the Facility Manager reminding them of members’ rights and that it is unacceptable to threaten termination of employment or the removal of a permanent contract for accessing those rights.

The HSU has received a response from Pines Living management, who:
  • Acknowledged the wording of the email was inappropriate;
  • Assured communication will improve going forward; and
  • Issued an apology for the concern/distress the email caused.

When members come together and speak up, we get heard!

If you need to take personal leave, members are encouraged to continue:

  • Notifying your manager/roster clerk as early as possible;
  • Let them know when you expect to be fit to return to work; and
  • Provide evidence of your absence when requested.

Members requiring additional support are encouraged to contact your Organiser Lisa at lisa.bourke@hsu.asn.au or 0409 744 165, or the Member Services Division on 1300 478 679 or info@hsu.asn.au.
