We Won! But Our Fight at ATCC Continues
Friday 20 February, 2026
HSU members in catering/GSO at ATCC raised serious workload and WHS concerns about the roster that was introduced over the last couple of weeks. After HSU members’ action, Opal has confirmed the roster will revert to its previous arrangements from Monday 16 February 2026. This is a clear win made possible by members standing together!
Our fight is not over yet
Opal has indicated that the recent roster may be reintroduced. If it is, Opal has said the process will be formalised, including written notification to all affected employees and the HSU, and proper consultation meetings as well as a staff briefing meeting.
What members should do now
- Work at a normal pace and do not rush! Your safety is more important than anything else.
- Collect examples from the two-week roster period or the current practices that show unsafe work practices or workload impacts such as missed breaks, working unsafely to finish, rushed manual handling, fatigue, or having to come early or stay back to get the job done.
- Share these concerns with your workplace delegates and your HSU Organiser Hyojung on hyojung.kim@hsu.asn.au or 0458 012 322.
Encourage all your colleagues to join the HSU so that ATCC is a safer workplace for all. We are always stronger when we stand together.
