Award Reform Conciliation Commences at the Industrial Relations Commission

Award Reform Conciliation Commences at the Industrial Relations Commission

Monday 24 November, 2025

On 19 November 2025, HSU representatives attended the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) for a full day of conciliation on the HSU Core Conditions Award and Health Professionals (MIR & CHAP) claims.

Your HSU representatives provided the IRC with a detailed overview of:

  • The HSU’s proposed award structure.
  • Core Conditions Award negotiations.
  • Health Professionals negotiations.

The conciliation assisted in identifying the key items which might be progressed through further discussions, and which claims will likely require arbitration (a case heard in front of the full bench of the IRC).

There were also several action items prior to the next conciliation date:

  • HSU and MOH to hold Core Conditions Award negotiation meetings on 20 November and 9 December.
  • MOH to provide HSU with formal position on Award structures.
  • HSU to provide MOH with a response on Award structures.
  • HSU to provide MOH with draft Scientific Award.

Conciliation will continue over early December to refine those claims that may not require any further intervention by the IRC.

Member Endorsement for Final Awards:

Prior to final Awards being provided to the IRC, HSU members will vote to endorse all amendments made throughout negotiations. The following process will occur:

  • Late November – online mass-meetings occur to provide an overview of changes made.
  • First week of December – members provided documentation summarising amendments and a survey to endorse or reject changes.

Scientific Award Endorsement:

HSU Scientific members have completed endorsement for the proposed Scientific Award. This ensures the Award can be progressed to the IRC process and has now been provided to the MOH for the purpose of conciliation.

Dental Award Development:

HSU Dental members continue to attempt to prepare a draft Award for member feedback. Best efforts are being made to ensure this is completed as soon as possible and can be progressed alongside the other professional awards.
