Next steps forward for Lumus members at Northern Beaches Hospital
Tuesday 18 November, 2025
Last Tuesday, HSU members met to plan and discuss the next steps for workers at Lumus Northern Beaches Hospital.
Currently, the facts are as follows:
- 73% of surveyed workers at Lumus have voted to campaign to transition to NSW Health.
- The NSW government has indicated its intention to transition all third-party providers to NSW Health but has not committed to timeframes or given any real detail.
- Healthscope staff will begin their transition to NSW Health in February 2026. Any changes to Lumus staff will likely happen after that.
- Lumus has issued the Notice of Employee Representation Rights (NERR), meaning EBA bargaining will begin shortly.
Most imminently, we must remain focused on Lumus’ upcoming EBA negotiations. Members only have this window of opportunity to push for pay parity with NSW Health every 3 years. This is important because a transition to NSW Health is not guaranteed to happen soon, or at all.
At the same time, members will strongly advocate for a just transition to NSW Health. Members’ demands for this process have been listed below, which will soon be endorsed by collecting workers’ signatures. This will show our collective strength in transition talks.
It is vital that all concerns from members are heard. Those at Lumus NBH who have indicated they don’t wish to transition to NSW Health will have their voices heard equally as much as those who have.
We have the best chance at a favourable outcome for all if we work together.
HSU member demands and concerns can be viewed here.
If there is anything you would like to add to the list above, or if you have any questions, please contact HSU Organiser Maisie at maisie.knight@hsu.asn.au by Friday 21 November.
Please also contact Maisie if you would like to represent your colleagues in transition talks with the hospital and the Health Minister.
