Prison Bed Effectiveness Program Impacts on Justice Health

Prison Bed Effectiveness Program Impacts on Justice Health

Thursday 28 May, 2026

Dear member,

Justice Health and Forensic Mental Health Network (JHFMHN) has notified the HSU of proposed changes to Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) and the impact they would have on Justice Health workers.  This is your opportunity to have a say on how this affects you.

  • CSNSW has been reviewing facilities to ensure they are fit for purpose, meet operational requirements, and can ensure the safety of staff and patients, as part of its ‘Prison Bed Effectiveness Program’.
  • As a result of this review there has been a decision to close four Victorian era wings at Goulburn Correctional Centre and transition Silverwater Women's Correctional Centre into a 30-bed female intake and reception centre.
  • Whilst nothing is confirmed at this stage with the available information, this change would likely result in a decrease in JHFMHN positions required at those centres. Management claim all efforts would be made to redeploy those staff across JHFMHN.
