Shift Allowance backpay win at Douglass Hanley Moir!

Shift Allowance backpay win at Douglass Hanley Moir!

Friday 15 May, 2026

Dear member,

We’ve finally won! After almost 2 years of back and forth, Douglass Hanley Moir has recognised that it has been underpaying workers because of an historically incorrect application of the shift allowance. And now HSU members at DHM will be paid the money owed to them within 30 days.

This only happened because members collectively demanded the full amount they were underpaid. Your pressure has forced DHM to do the right thing and pay members what you're entitled to.

All impacted staff are being contacted by management with the amount they are owed. You can request a full breakdown of this figure. If you don’t think what you are being told is correct, you can ask questions and seek further clarification.

A big congratulations to all who fought for this, with special recognition for members in the Union Committee at the DHM St George lab! This issue was discovered by them, and they did not stop until it was resolved.

For any questions or if you think you are entitled to more money, please reach out to your HSU Organiser Andrei Bilic at 0417 134 715 or Andrei.Bilic@hsu.asn.au or your Member Services Division on 1300 478 679.

Do you know someone who isn’t an HSU member? Encourage them to join our Union today and have a say at work. We are always stronger when we stand together. New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679.
