Thompson Health Care - Overpayment
Tuesday 2 December, 2025
Thompson Health Care has advised of an alleged overpayment to employees holding a Certificate IV. They now claim the qualification is not required for current roles and are proposing changes to rates and classifications.
- HSU members reject any move to ignore or devalue workers’ qualifications. Certificate IV skills improve care and should be recognised with appropriate pay.
- Thompson has relied on these skills for over 12 months. Cutting pay now, after workers have used their qualifications every day, is unreasonable and unfair.
- Residents deserve high-quality care. If Thompson claims these skills are not required, do they now propose qualified staff stop using them? That would undermine care standards rather than improve them.
- Consultation has begun, and Thompson has indicated changes may take effect early next year. More information has been requested to ensure members are properly represented.
If you believe you were not overpaid, for example if you were hired based on your qualification, perform higher-skilled duties, or have relevant information, please contact
