Union Win! Sick leave requirements and Vacant shifts at Bethshan Gardens

Friday 28 November, 2025

HSU members raised concerns about the recent direction from management at Bethshan Gardens for all staff to provide a medical certificate or other appropriate evidence for all single day personal leave/carers leave absences. It was also reported that casual staff were being given preference to vacant shifts over permanent part time employees.
  • Members concerns were taken to management, and they have acknowledged that the direction to provide a medical certificate for single day absences was unreasonable and have withdrawn the direction effective immediately.
  • Bethshan Gardens have also acknowledged that available shifts are to be offered to permanent part time employees before casual employees.
