Update re Staff Parking Payment at The Sutherland Hospital

Friday 28 November, 2025

On Tuesday 25 November, HSU members met and discussed their concerns about the proposed changes to the staff carparking payment at The Sutherland Hospital, and held a Union Specific Consultative Committee (USCC) with management on Wednesday 26 November.

  • Members’ concerns were raised and discussed, and a written response from management is expected next week.

  • In the meantime, Management advised that current parking passes will not suddenly cease working on 1 December.

  • The HSU and Ministry of Health (MoH) are still in discussions around:
    • Classification of a part-time car parking fee: The Policy should be amended to state that both the full time and part time car parking fees listed in the policy are a maximum amount and that an LHD has the autonomy to calculate different classifications of rates themselves, provided they do not exceed the maximum amount

    • Full-time employees who work from home (WFH) for a portion of their contracted hours: The Policy should be amended to provide a provision allowing full-time staff with formal WFH arrangements to access the part-time car parking rate, subject to LHD verification
