Updates on V1 Closure and Your Rights during Consultation Period
Thursday 28 May, 2026
Dear member,
The formal consultation period for the V1 Closure commenced on 20 May 2026 with a staff briefing meeting attended by your HSU Organiser.
Remember, HSU members at Maronite Sisters of the Holy Family can access union support and representation at individual consultation meetings. You are not on your own, and you do not have to make a decision under pressure.
Know your rights:
- Do NOT attend any meeting alone. You can have a union representative (not a passive support person) to speak on your behalf.
- You have the right to reschedule a meeting if your union representative is unavailable. You can also request multiple consultation meetings if needed.
- You do NOT have to answer questions on the spot. You can tell your employer you need time to consider and will respond later. Do not feel rushed. You have the right to make an informed decision.
- Transferring to St Charbel’s or any nursing home under the Jesmond Group means starting new employment under a different employer. This means your entitlements (service continuity, accrued leave, redundancy eligibility etc.) are NOT transferrable, unlike redeployment to V2 within your organisation.
The closure of a workplace is complex, and every member’s situation is different. Contact your HSU Organiser Hyojung Kim on hyojung.kim@hsu.asn.au or 0458 012 322 for advice or representation before signing anything or committing to any options.
Know someone who is not yet an HSU member? New members can join at www.hsu.asn.au/join or call 1300 478 679. We’re stronger together.
