Implementation: Waste Management Block Model at John Hunter Hospital (JHH)

HealthShare NSW (HSNSW) has notified the HSU that it will be implementing the Block Model for waste management at JHH. This is your opportunity to have a say on how this affects you.
  • This model was trialled for a period of three months after consultation with staff and the HSU, and HSNSW claim it has delivered various improvements.
  • HSNSW claims the model has addressed operational challenges in the existing waste and linen collection process, noting that under the previous system, separate linen and waste runs across multiple areas on-site were required. This resulted in long travel distances for staff, slower turnaround times, and overfilling risks in disposal rooms.
  • HSNSW claims no concerns were raised during the trial, and all staff expressed agreement to adopt the model on a permanent basis.
