Mental Health Intake Service Restructure at Greater Newcastle Mental Health Service

Friday 20 March, 2026

Hunter New England LHD (HNELHD) has provided the HSU with details of a review into the Mental Health intake line (MHIL) and the grading of positions. This is your opportunity to have a say on how this affects you.
  • The attached report provides 3 recommendations that HNELHD is seeking feedback on, and each of these relate to regrading of multidisciplinary positions.
  • HNELHD indicates that it holds concerns regarding the flat structure of Allied Health and its inability to properly allow for professional leadership requirements to be met.
  • The recommendations also include the proposal of reclassifying some positions as professionally distinct under Nursing or Allied Health to ensure continuation of a mix of disciplines.
